Bathroom...

Another bathroom shot and again we see the white on white theme with vintage fittings. From tiles to timber to porceline and linen, white is a perfect treatment for a small cottage. From time to time colour may be injected but usually its plain and simple, nothing more than it needs to be.

Kitchen progress...

A kitchen canopy, during design/construction stages. I rarely get the chance but when I do I love letting things evolve slowly. Here you can see the tile splash back comming together well after the timber cabinetry has been finished.

Room with a view...

A newly created vista from the kitchen to the rear sitting room. I love elongated views through doorways to other rooms, giving only a glimpse of what lies ahead.

Work in progress...

I love seeing each individual section of my Sassafras home come together. Small details appear weekly as I am inspired by a thought or vision. Here, an original fire place in one of the sitting rooms is given a facelift and it nears completion.

Desk top items...

Two more images from my studio, inspirational still lifes that appear on a day to day basis! So often unintentional... but perfect in so many ways! Textures, tones and colors that I find inspiational are often the foundation to a "look" in a new interior project. See more at http://www.justinbishop.com.au/

Desktop collections...

A snapshot of my studio desk this morning. With a collection of vintage glass doorhandles, an antique tape measure, marble samples and fabric, I unintentionally created this still life. The lighting was perfect as it reflected of the surfaces. Inspiring images like this stay with me and often reappear again in my work. Find more inspiration at http://www.justinbishop.com.au/

A beautiful room...

A beautiful room! Symmetry and clean lines, neutral tones and easy textures. A hint of glamour with an ornate chandelier, objet d'art and BOOKS, a welcome addition to any room.
My style is governed by many of these principles... my website justinbishop.com.au shows many examples of classic styling and harmonious design in my work. Obviously, it's a pleasure to work amongst beautiful things... I'm lucky enough to do this, often.

Inspiration Botanica

Another decoration inspiration - organic freshness and glamour, a great combination.
"Wedding Botanica", my first wedding fair event will feature this look; flowers and other plants used in a natural, relaxed way, combined with vintage treasures. Very romantic, very stylish!

Glass Lanterns

I love these glass jar lanterns, made for a friend as a table decoration that doubled as a place name card.
Ideas such as these are so inspiring. Often simple, organic and fresh, they are everything they should be, nothing more and nothing less!
We carried this theme through an entire event, very successful!

Inspiration Disney...

Faced with the task of designing a bedroom for a four year old this week, I searched for inspiration. Without resorting to current, modern themes or trends I turned back the clock.... to the 40's! Vintage Disney imagery was my lucky find - the gorgeous style and colors of original Walt Disney childrens books caught my imagination. I've always loved the look of vintage Disney memorabilia, and have my own collection of 1950's Disney figurines in my office. The talent and creativity of the original Disney artists was truly inspirational.

Collecting...

Next week, on my travels, I'll be collecting... inspirations! Images, visual treats, eye candy; things that make me stop, and look. Visual inspirations can be an important factor in begining (or finishing) a design. That little detail that everything builds from or that completes the picture... I'll be adding something every week so, stay tuned.

Bedroom in order...

A bedroom, recently completed in my Sassafras home. Simple, furnishings and classic decorating motifs - Perfect!

Rennovating...

This week, I'm rennovating! My home, in Melbournes Dandenong Ranges, is slowly being transformed into my idea of a classic hills residence. With period detailing, authentic furishings and vintage fittings, I'm creating my vision. I've always been an anti-modernist, especially when it comes to interior design, and my home will be a showcase for my classic interior style.

Growing up...

My interior design ambitions began as a boy. Growing up in rural Victoria in my family's ancestral home "Pigeon Bank" was a magical experience. My parents allowed my passion for creativity to run wild as we spent years renovating the property. My bedroom was my proudest achievement, with restored floorboards, white-washed tongue and groove lining boards (reaching to 13ft ceilings) and antique fittings. It was a large room and I used old ship sails to divide areas, draping them theatrically but simply. I began collecting during these early years. Old furniture, cushions, and interesting objects, all telling a story, I would create displays and photograph them (when I was lucky enough to borrow my parents camera).

In this blog I'll be posting images of some of my projects. Private homes, visual displays and other work that I've completed. I look forward to sharing these with you.
